When making decisions I think of the end picture or the goal that I want to achieve for myself, my staff and the clients we look after. Help promote safer ways of practice and look at different methods of training or shared knowledge to achieve this.

Peter's career journey

Peter started working within the care sector 5 years ago with no knowledge of how the Health & Social Care sector worked or any understanding of care regulations.

Peter started his Level 2 Apprenticeship in Health & Social Care - Adult back in 2016 with t2 group. He had no previous qualifications including literacy and numeracy.

From the start of his Apprenticeship journey, Peter felt his assessor not only gave him the tools, advice, and information to expand his knowledge within the Health & Social sector, he also gave him the confidence to grow and become a knowledgeable, reliable, and worthy member of his team to build others and safely provide best practice. Peter felt his assessor saw what areas he could improve on and expand his knowledge base, which gave him the confidence to stand up and have a voice.

To challenge himself further Peter wanted to continue his learning and achieve his Level 3 Apprenticeship in Health & Social Care – Adult in 2018. He didn’t stop there but continued his learning and went on to achieve his Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care and finally his Level 5 Diploma for Health and Social Care and Children’s and Young Peoples Settings through an Advanced Learner Loan with t2 group. After achieving his Level 5 he now felt he had the utmost confidence to open his own care company, Home and Community Care Ltd.

What advice would Peter give to anyone interested in a career in care?

Peter recommends studying and achieving the qualifications in Health and Social Care, showing an interest in ongoing learning and development, and taking every opportunity available.

Within the 5 years, I have come from learning and achieving my Level 2 through gaining knowledge and understanding, working on the floor with the new skills I have learnt and progressed through to my Level 5. I have set up my own domiciliary care company and gained the strengths as an understandable manager but also as a good leader to promote vision and drive plus gaining the necessary qualifications in management, leadership, Health and Social Care Level 2,3,4 and 5 to allow good practice to continue and safer care. I have enjoyed every single step of my career journey.
